What happens at

1on1 Therapy?

1. Clients connect with our intake coordinator and provided details on therapeutic goals and needs. Our intake coordinator will suggest the best fit and will schedule an intake session with one of our therapists typically within 1-2 weeks.

2. Clients will meet their therapist; intake sessions will explore all areas of life, areas of concern, struggle, success to paint an in-depth picture of the client. The therapist will explain all policies and procedures, their therapy style, and then the client and the therapist will agree on the direction and goals for their time together.

3. Once the intake is complete, the next session will focus on the goals set out in the intake session, our therapists use a variety of modalities in session, our general structure and approach is to:

  • Start with a check-in, review strategies and methods implemented since our last session (weekly sessions are encouraged).

  • We then dig deeper into the same theme or explore new concepts and strategies through a variety of interactive methods (art, play, media, talk, case studies, etc .) before relating them to the clients' personal experiences.

  • Once a concrete understanding is shown, we decide how to take the concepts from the therapy room into the clients' day-to-day life by meeting them where they are at and agreeing to realistic implementation strategies.

  • We then wrap up the session with a parent update/teach where we explore support strategies and agree to our implementation plan to continue developing our new skills, strategies and habits! Additional parenting coaching or family sessions may be recommended in conjunction with individual work.

  • When working with a minor, the therapist will play a game or complete an activity with the child at the beginning or end of the session for a few minutes to build rapport, trust, and connection.

  • If the session is for a young adult or adult, the last two steps are removed and more time is spent on strategies, skill-building and planning for future use.
